TEMP POSITION- 4 month assignment
The Legal Assistant provides legal secretarial and clerical support to one or more Assistant Federal Defenders.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Legal Document Management: Utilizes legal terminology and court protocols to prepare, edit, proofread, and assemble legal documents for filing and mailing.
- Communication Handling: Manages incoming calls and visitors, responding to general inquiries and relaying information.
- Mail Management: Screens and routes mail, reviews outgoing mail for accuracy, and maintains correspondence records.
- Correspondence Preparation: Drafts and formats letters and memoranda for Assistant Defenders.
- Calendar and Scheduling: Maintains calendars, arranges meetings, and coordinates travel schedules.
- Case File Organization: Manages case files, tracks court appearances, and notifies clients of appointments.
- Administrative Support: Assists in managing CIA Panel-related tasks and other clerical duties.
- Mail Services: Oversees incoming and outgoing mail, including courier services.
Qualifications:
- Office confidentiality knowledge (e.g., attorney-client privilege).
- Familiarity with office operations and problem-solving.
- Strong communication and computer skills.
- Specialized Experience:
- Legal secretarial expertise, including case analysis and regulatory knowledge.
- Progressive experience in legal or secretarial duties.
Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Advanced education may substitute for experience.
Substitution Options
A bachelor’s degree or advanced education in relevant fields (e.g., law, criminal justice) can substitute for some experience requirements.
National Background Check and Drug Screen required.
