Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Practice Administrator, the Medical Records Team Lead controls the day-to-day operations of assigned area and oversees all functions contributing to the department mission of retrieving and delivering health information. The Medical Records Team Lead is responsible for overseeing medical record functions related to regulatory compliance and privacy laws while also acting as a facilitator and resource person by providing assistance, resources, and training to all staff members.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervises Health Information Management staff. (Assist in Recruitment, orientation and training, provide point of contact to Health Information Management staff, resource allocation, task definition, performance standards, performance feedback, cross training, performance evaluation, corrective action, shift scheduling, coordinate training and changes in policy that affect their department, and interface between management.)
  • Analyzes and reviews medical records for completeness and accuracy of documentation according to specified standards.
  • Abstracts and codes clinical data such as diseases, operations, procedures, and therapies on medical records according to specified standards.
  • Validates and performs quality review of scanned records as well as monitors and maintains the integrity of the legal medical record.
  • Audits incomplete records and prepares reports on delinquencies.
  • Confers with doctors, nurses, and other health personnel to assure complete, current, and accurate medical records.
  • Manages inbound/outbound electronic fax and other communication channels regarding medical records requests and tasks.
  • Scans documentation in medical chart and manages scanning queue.
  • Compiles, maintains, and reviews logs, reports, and statistical records, and researches records to locate health data as requested.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have experience in EMR {electronic medical records) and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • AllScripts EMR experience preferred.
  • High school diploma and/or Vocational School graduate with some business training or equivalent job experience.
  • A minimum of two years previous experience in health information is desired.
  • Previous supervisory experience is required.
