We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Nursing Department Manager/Director of Nursing to lead and inspire our nursing team in a mental health setting. This pivotal role ensures that our nursing department operates efficiently, remains compliant with regulatory standards, and provides the highest quality care to our residents. The successful candidate will have a passion for mental health, a commitment to trauma informed care, and the leadership skills to foster a positive, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Nursing Department Management:
- Provide leadership and oversight to the Nurse Manager, ensuring smooth operations and efficient workflows.
- Lead recruitment efforts, conducting interviews and hiring new staff in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Oversee payroll processes and approve timesheet changes bimonthly through Kronos.
- Conduct performance reviews, offering constructive feedback to nursing staff for both probationary and annual assessments.
- Collaborate on the development and revision of departmental standards and protocols, ensuring alignment with best practices.
- Provide supportive guidance to nursing staff, helping them excel in their roles.
- Ensure compliance with JCAHO, state licensing, out of state contracts, and all relevant regulatory standards.
- Supervise the Nursing Administrative Assistant and ensure seamless departmental support.
- Develop and implement staff recruitment and retention strategies alongside the Nurse Manager and HR.
- Work closely with the Medical Director to update medication administration protocols as needed.
- Support the Nurse Manager in coordinating nursing support across programs and manage on call and nurse coverage as required.
Therapeutic Environment Management:
- Partner with Program Managers to foster a trauma informed therapeutic environment that aligns with best practices.
- Contribute to the development of behavior management policies, including reward systems and other positive reinforcement strategies.
- Play an integral role in creating and updating residents' master treatment plans.
- Participate in weekly treatment team meetings with the Nurse Manager to review resident progress and address challenges using current best practices.
- Help maintain resident rights in group living settings, ensuring policies promote dignity and respect.
- Support therapeutic and age-appropriate interactions between nurses and residents, emphasizing empathy, active listening, and a friendly, trust building approach.
- Advocate on behalf of residents, ensuring their needs are met with compassion and care.
- Assist in special procedures, such as seclusions or restraints, following established protocols in emergency situations.
- Regularly visit with residents to build trust, provide reassurance, and promote a sense of safety and wellbeing during their stay away from home.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution
- Active RN licensure in the state of Arkansas in good standing
- Minimum of 8 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role
- Valid Arkansas driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to the insurance carrier
